STEPHEN GREEN – PRESIDENT

Stephen is an award-winning coach. He is the President and Founder of Ignite Volleyball Club. Stephen started Ignite in the fall of 2018 after many successful seasons with Kitchener-Waterloo Predators VC, Waterloo Tigers VC, and before that, stints with Waterdown Raiders and the fabled Scarborough Solars VC.

“I had an amazing experience with all the clubs I’ve been a part of and am thankful for all the friends and partnerships I’ve developed over the years.” says Green. “Ignite is a wonderful opportunity to live a dream of delivering a High-Performance program from the ground up with my own vision .”

As a member of the Waterloo Tigers, Stephen started and ran the first House League program in the Waterloo Region. The program blossomed from the onset growing at a high pace. After joining the Kitchener-Waterloo Predators in 2007, Green not only coached many successful club teams (more on that later), but also founded the initially successful Mini & Pee Wee Preds and Preds Beach programs. Both of these programs are now the foundation of the KW Predators VC. Mini & Pee Wees went from approximately 30 young JKs to grade 3’s per night to well over 60 per night and over two days a week!

Stephen has sat on the Executive Boards for both KW Predators and Waterloo Tigers. In 2012, Stephen won the Kitchener Sports Association Volunteer Award for his countless hours volunteering to assist in building youth sports in the Waterloo Region. In 2016, he won the five year Ontario Volleyball Association Volunteer award and was honoured at the OVA Annual Banquet.

With all of this, where Stephen has most excelled is in his coaching of competitive club teams. He was the first coach in KW Preds history to feature a top four finish at Volleyball Canada National Championships (Div I, Tier I) in 2012 with his 17U Girls team. Over his career, he has had only finished out of the top 5 once in Ontario when coaching an age category of 15U and older. “14U and younger is for development and having the athletes learn to LOVE the game and all that can be achieved through hard work, effort, and being a good person that others want to be around. This is why I’m simply not concerned with any results from 14U and younger.” says Green. Other highlights include a bronze medal in 2004 in the 15U Div I, Tier I Provincial Championships and countless medals throughout OVA competition.

Also included in Stephen’s experience is a three year stint as the Assistant Coach with the women’s volleyball team at the University of Waterloo (assisting the team to a Final Four finish) and the Region III ADP Chair leading one of the two teams to the Ontario Summer Games in 2006.

As part of his commitment to coaching development and sharing of best practices, Stephen is a mentor in the AVCA Match Point Program. This coaches mentoring program is designed to match AVCA member coaches with a mentor or a mentee in the volleyball community. Match Point provides a platform for experienced coaches to share their knowledge and talents and offers mentees opportunities for career and personal growth.

Stephen is also a Provincial Level Official…he was one of the youngest as the age of sixteen. He also holds the following certifications:

Stephen lives with his wife Tracy and two amazing children Kyle and Emily in Kitchener, Ontario. When he’s not busy growing the sport of volleyball in Canada, he’s a Mortgage Specialist with RBC Royal Bank.
